Apohadion (New Venue) and Plains (local band)

Been meaning to write this up for a while but just didn't happen. Went to a show in Portland at a great new(ish) venue/artist studio called Apohadion (Portland's "subterranean theatre"). It is the studio of Pat Corrigan and Dave Noyes over at 107 Hanover St. Check out the Bollard for the backstory. Anyways the show featured Tiny Fires headlining, with Plains and The Orchard opening up. They were all great, but my favorite was the band calling itself Plains. They were heavenly, ethereal, transcendent. The myspace site doesn't do it justice, as I think the stuff on there was recorded a while ago. They had beautiful, close harmonies, acoustic and varied instrumentation, which they all rotated playing and very earnest and sincere. I loved it and I loved the space it all took place in. I highly recommend it and the band. Listen for yourself:

And can you believe that recently Rakim performed here as well as Ghostface Killah! Raekwon is here Dec. 18. Medeski, Martin and Wood is here Dec. 5 at Port City Music Hall. Josh Ritter comes around Dec. 7th at Bates College as well.

Enjoy!
