New Neko Case coming soon...

Neko Case has a voice that makes me happy. It just fills me up and lifts me away. Her new album "Middle Cyclone" is due out March 3. She promises to donate five dollars for every blog that posts the new single and one dollar for every user of iLike that adds it to their profile to the Best Friends Animal Society. Here is the new single:

New Beirut on the way

Beirut is due to come out with some new music. Their music is just beautiful. Well, really it is the work of a musical prodigy by the name of Zach Condon who, to my surprise (considering the styles of music) is originally from Alburquerque, N.M. Under the name Beirut they have come out with two full length albums, both of which I still really enjoy. They range from Eastern European inspired horns, gypsy-like music to old-school french inspired music, (but not exactly). The first one is called "Gulag Orkestar" and I have enjoyed it so much it made my "so good I purchase it on vinyl" philosophy. They have two new EPs coming out February 17th. One, titled "March of the Zapotec", collects six new tracks partially recorded in Oaxaca, Mexico and features contributions from the 19-piece Banda Jimenez. The second, "Holland", is credited to Realpeople, another, old project name of Zach Condon's but featuring new music.
Track listings:

Beirut: March of the Zapotec:

01 El Zocalo
02 La Llorna
03 My Wife
04 The Akara
05 On a Bayonet
06 The Shrew

Realpeople: Holland:

01 My Night With a Prostitute From Marseille
02 My Wife, Lost in the Wild
03 Venice
04 The Concubine
05 No Dice

Can't forget about Miles

The album had its ups and downs but it had some amazing songs. One of which will be on my uselessly late top songs list (if I ever post it). I expect big things from him, and I also heard a rumor a while back that a local establishment was trying to get him here to our little port land. Here is a great quote and video from him...

I HAVE DONE A SHIT TON OF DRUGS AND I USED TO SLEEP OUTSIDE SOMETIMES. I ATE FOOD OUT OF THE GARBAGE AND SAVED FOUND CHANGE TO BUY MALT LIQOUR. IF YOU DON’T ALREADY HATE THIS STORY YOU WILL SOON. Oh the unshakeable stench of cliche that surrounds me.

THE Mission of Burma coming to my area!!!!

These guys are legends!!!
From the "Space Gallery" newsletter:

8:30pm, $15, 18+
Buy tickets here.

Yes, THE Mission of Burma!

"They're making their noise their way, the same way they did some two
decades ago. And it's a sound as vital and inspirational as ever." - Pitchfork

Mission of Burma is an American post-punk band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1979. The band was formed by Roger Miller (guitar), Clint Conley (bass), Peter Prescott (drums) and Martin Swope (tape manipulator/sound engineer). Miller, Conley and Prescott share singing and songwriting duties. Like many of their post-punk contemporaries, Mission of Burma's efforts are largely concerned with extending punk's original vocabulary without losing its essential rebellious spirit. Using rapid shifts in dynamics, unconventional time signatures and chord progressions along with tape effects, Mission of Burma challenges the prevailing idioms of punk while attempting to retain its power and immediacy. Locals Huak return to SPACE with a slew of new songs from their upcoming EP. The Rattlesnakes open the night.

Blood Bank out soon

From www.boniver.org:

BON IVER's Blood Bank Up For Pre-order

Jagjaguwar is pleased to announce that BON IVER's newest release, Blood Bank, is available now for pre-order.

Your pre order copy will ship the second week of January, and the record will be available in stores January 20 in the US, January 19 in the UK.

I have to admit, I have had it for a couple of weeks. (In slightly inferior sound quality, and I will purchase the actual release or actually download it on emusic) but sounds like great stuff. At least 3 of the songs are really making the rounds in my head. There is an interesting experiment with some kind of vocoder autotune, Daft Punk like voice effect of some kind.

You can hear the album streaming over at Bon Iver's mySpace page

Ipod game makes a comeback

Spin the wheel, and....

Ah, excellent. Old & In The Way. I enjoy some Grateful Dead, not tons. Not endless live bootlegs of endless noodlings. (No offense). But, this stuff, Dawg music. I absolutely love. Have a listen...
